Trends in prenatal diagnosis of congenital anomalies in Western Australia between 1980 and 2020: A population-based study

Cassandra MacArthur et al.

Summary: This study conducted a retrospective cohort study on all children born in Western Australia between 1980 and 2020 who were diagnosed with congenital anomalies. The study found an increasing trend in prenatal diagnosis of congenital anomalies, but it was less common in remote regions and among Aboriginal children, highlighting the need for improved antenatal care services for these populations.

Impact of maternal social vulnerability and timing of prenatal care on outcome of prenatally detected congenital heart disease

M. T. Perez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of sociodemographic and fetal factors on the timing of prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD) and its outcomes. The results showed that high social vulnerability, Catholic or other Christian religion, and lower fetal disease severity score were associated with late prenatal CHD diagnosis. Late diagnosis led to fewer terminations of pregnancy (TOPs) and worse postnatal outcomes for the infants.

Summary: The prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased in France over time, with higher rates observed among women with lower education and income levels. Public policies should be implemented to address this issue and health professionals should advise women to improve their diet and increase physical activity to prevent weight gain.

Results of the 2021 French National Perinatal Survey and trends in perinatal health in metropolitan France since 1995

Camille Le Ray et al.

Summary: This article reports the results of the 2021 French National Perinatal Survey (ENP) and assesses trends in perinatal health indicators, medical practices, and risk factors in France since 1995. The survey showed changes in maternal characteristics, with an increase in maternal age and obesity rates. Some preventive behaviors improved, such as not smoking during the third trimester and receiving folic acid and influenza vaccinations. The role of midwives in prenatal care has increased. However, there are still areas that need improvement.
