Salvage of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Pocket Infection with Skin Erosion in Frail 92-Year-Old

Summary: We reported a novel use of a taurolidine-containing antimicrobial solution for successfully salvaging a partially exposed and polymicrobially infected cardiac implantable electronic device pulse generator in a frail patient unfit for lead extraction. After a 9-month follow-up, the old salvaged device was entirely internalized, and there were no signs of recurrent infection.

Eradication of Ventricular Assist Device Driveline Infection in Paediatric Patients with Taurolidine

Summary: Ventricular assist devices (VADs) are commonly used to provide mechanical circulatory support for patients with end-stage heart failure. However, driveline infection remains a major challenge in VAD therapy. This study presents a novel treatment approach using a taurolidine-containing antimicrobial solution, which has shown successful eradication of VAD driveline infection and provides a potential alternative to device explantation.
