Innovation, productivity and spillover effects in the Italian accommodation industry

Cristina Bernini et al.

Summary: This paper provides new insights on how different sources of innovation contribute to the economic performance of Italian hotels. It extends the current literature on industrial agglomeration to the firm level in the accommodation sector. The study finds that skilled labour and qualified human resources are the main drivers of Italian hotels' performance, while innovative activity from neighbouring hotels generates both agglomeration and competition effects.

Energy poverty in the Netherlands at the national and local level: A multi-dimensional spatial analysis

Peter Mulder et al.

Summary: The strong increase in energy prices since 2021 has shifted the focus to energy poverty in the Netherlands, which was previously neglected in national policy making. A multifaceted spatial analysis of energy poverty in the Netherlands is presented, providing the foundation for a national energy poverty monitor. The analysis measures the affordability of energy, the energetic quality of houses, and households' ability to participate in the energy transition.

Spatiotemporal pattern assessment of China's industrial green productivity and its spatial drivers: Evidence from city-level data over 2000-2017

Kang Gao et al.

Summary: City-level accounting of industrial green productivity is crucial for understanding the variations of green transformation and development across cities in China. However, the lack of urban industrial sector energy consumption data leads to provincial-level assessment of IGP, limiting the formulation of systematic measures to improve IGP. This study utilizes nighttime light data to simulate energy consumption and analyzes the spatial and temporal patterns of IGP, revealing increasing spatial inequality and a positive spatial correlation of IGP agglomeration over time.

Spatial-temporal variation and coupling analysis of residential energy consumption and economic growth in China

Na Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the spatial pattern and evolution trends of residential energy consumption in China, as well as its relations to economic growth. The results show that coal and natural gas experience the most drastic movement trend of gravity centers, while electricity remains relatively stable. The study also finds that residential electricity consumption exhibits the highest coupling coordination degree with economic growth.

Dynamic spatial spillover effect of new energy vehicle industry policies on carbon emission of transportation sector in China

Min Zhao et al.

Summary: This study uses panel data analysis to find that low-carbon emissions in the transportation sector can promote low-carbon emissions in adjacent regions or economically similar regions. NEV industry policies have short-term and long-term effects on carbon emissions in the local transportation sector, and these policies have positive spatial spillover effects on carbon emissions in adjacent or economically similar regions, but it requires long-term transmission. The education level of regional residents and the investment scale of the transportation sector are negatively correlated with carbon emissions in the transportation sector.

Feng Li et al.

Summary: This study selects the Yangtze River Economic Belt as the research area and analyzes the spatial spillover effects of renewable energy technologies on carbon emission efficiency and optimal development range. The study finds that there are differences in geographical location and distance between the eastern and the western regions. Renewable energy technologies have a positive promotion effect on carbon emission efficiency, but the diffusion of technology is poor.

Government corruption, market segmentation and renewable energy technology innovation: Evidence from China

Siyu Ren et al.

Summary: Government corruption and market segmentation have significant negative effects on renewable energy technology innovation, while the improvement of market segmentation can mitigate the impact of corruption on technology innovation. A higher level of corruption exacerbates the negative impact of market segmentation on technology innovation, and a deeper market segmentation increases the restraining effect of corruption on technology innovation.

Exploring the spatiotemporal evolution of energy intensity in China by visual technology of the GIS

Xiaohui Shi et al.

Summary: Understanding the spatiotemporal evolution of energy intensity is crucial for formulating regional energy policies in China. Through GIS analysis from 2003 to 2018, it was found that energy intensity in eastern, central, western, and northeastern China showed a downward trend, with the main distribution in the Yellow River Basin. The spatial distribution of energy intensity exhibited a trend of dispersion and westward shift, forming significant high intensity clusters in the western region and low intensity clusters in the eastern coastal region.

Research on the influence of manufacturing agglomeration modes on regional carbon emission and spatial effect in China

Fei Lan et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the impact and spatial effects of manufacturing agglomeration modes on regional carbon emissions. It finds that specialized agglomeration of manufacturing industry increases local carbon emissions, while diversified agglomeration has negative spillover effects on neighboring regions. Additionally, increasing affluence and government intervention are found to increase local carbon emissions, while trade openness decreases local carbon emissions. Population has a negative spillover effect. Recommendations for local government planners are also provided.
