Summary: Retrospective study on dogs and cats undergoing surgical treatment for double aortic arch revealed that all animals showed improvement with resolution of clinical signs and gain in weight postoperatively. Surgical ligation of the lesser aortic arch is associated with a favorable prognosis and quality of life with minor feeding modifications.

It highlights the importance of thorough history taking and examination in cats with extreme esophageal dilatation to identify upper respiratory tract abnormalities that may be treated appropriately to resolve the esophageal dilatation.
