Comparison of Four Methods for Streptococcus pneumoniae Capsular Typing

Maria Ercibengoa et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of four methods for pneumococcal capsular typing and found that S. PneumoStripTM, PCRSeqTyping, and FAF-mPCR were highly accurate, with S. PneumoStripTM yielding results more rapidly than the others. Combining molecular typing techniques with the Quellung reaction is a precise and fast strategy for serotyping a high number of pneumococcal clinical isolates.
