Randomized clinical trial: effect of low-dose flutamide on abdominal adipogenic function in normal-weight women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Daniel A. Dumesic et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the effects of low-dose flutamide administration on abdominal fat deposition, lipid accumulation in adipocytes derived from stem cells, and glucose-lipid metabolism in normal-weight women with PCOS. The results showed that flutamide reduced abdominal fat deposition, attenuated lipid accumulation in adipocytes, and altered glucose-lipid homeostasis in PCOS women.

Combined oral contraceptive pill compared with no medical treatment in the management of polycystic ovary syndrome: A systematic review

Maria Forslund et al.

Summary: This systematic review found that combined oral contraceptive pills (COCP) can improve cycle regularity in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), but there is limited evidence for other benefits or potential adverse effects. The study emphasizes the lack of research in PCOS and calls for prioritization of core reproductive, metabolic, and psychological outcomes.

Update on PCOS: Consequences, Challenges, and Guiding Treatment

Kathleen M. Hoeger et al.

Summary: PCOS, a common reproductive endocrine disorder in women, presents challenges in diagnosis and treatment. The International PCOS network, jointly sponsored by ESHRE and ASRM, developed evidence-based guidelines over several years, but satisfaction with diagnosis and treatment options is low among both clinicians and patients. Recent research has highlighted important findings in diagnosis and treatment, as well as ongoing challenges in understanding and managing PCOS.
