An Aggregated Mutual Information Based Feature Selection with Machine Learning Methods for Enhancing IoT Botnet Attack Detection

Mohammed Al-Sarem et al.

Summary: This study introduces an aggregated mutual information-based feature selection approach with machine learning methods to enhance detection of IoT botnet attacks. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of this approach, outperforming other techniques in various evaluation metrics.

A variable selection method based on mutual information and variance inflation factor

Jiehong Cheng et al.

Summary: Feature selection plays a vital role in reducing dimensionality in the quantitative analysis of high-dimensional data. This paper proposes a variable selection method called Mutual Information-Variance Inflation Factor (MI-VIF) that combines mutual information (MI) and the variance inflation factor (VIF). By maximizing the correlation between the independent variable and the response variable and minimizing multicollinearity, MI-VIF achieves effective feature selection.

CREB3L1 promotes tumor growth and metastasis of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma by remodeling the tumor microenvironment

Zongfu Pan et al.

Summary: CREB3L1 is upregulated in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and negatively associated with patient survival. Knockdown of CREB3L1 inhibits invasion of ATC cells, while its overexpression promotes invasion of papillary thyroid carcinoma cells. Additionally, CREB3L1 maintains cancer-associated fibroblast-like properties in ATC cells by activating ECM signaling.

Systematic identification of ACE2 expression modulators reveals cardiomyopathy as a risk factor for mortality in COVID-19 patients

Navchetan Kaur et al.

Summary: This study identifies multiple diseases and drugs that are associated with the expression of ACE2. The effect of these conditions should be carefully studied in COVID-19 patients. In particular, our analysis identifies cardiomyopathy patients as a high-risk group, with increased ACE2 expression in the heart and increased mortality after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Infinite Feature Selection: A Graph-based Feature Filtering Approach

Giorgio Roffo et al.

Summary: The study introduces a filtering feature selection framework that considers feature subsets as paths in a graph to address relevance and redundancy principles. Two different interpretations are used to evaluate the values of feature subsets, and a simple unsupervised strategy is proposed to cut the ranking and provide the subset of features to keep. The experiments show that the Infinite Feature Selection framework performs better in almost any situation compared to widely-known comparative approaches.

Glypican-1 is a novel immunohistochemical marker to differentiate poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma from solid predominant adenocarcinoma of the lung

Yuichiro Kai et al.

Summary: The study confirmed the expression of glypican-1 in lung squamous cell carcinoma as a novel positive diagnostic marker, with high sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy compared to lung adenocarcinoma. Glypican-1 expression was found in all cases of lung squamous cell carcinoma, but only in a few cases of lung adenocarcinoma, making it a promising additional marker for differentiation between the two types.

Heparan Sulfate Biosynthesis and Sulfation Profiles as Modulators of Cancer Signalling and Progression

Catarina Marques et al.

Summary: Heparan Sulfate Proteoglycans (HSPGs) play important roles in orchestrating cellular events in physiology and pathology by modulating cell signaling networks and cell interactions. The structural features of HS chains are crucial for the functions of HSPGs, influencing protein interactions and signaling. The tightly controlled biosynthetic pathway of HS leads to structural diversity, which is differently regulated in various tissues, developmental stages, and pathologies such as cancer.

PROLIDASE: A Review from Discovery to its Role in Health and Disease

Ireti Eni-Aganga et al.

Summary: Prolidase, encoded by the PEPD gene, is a crucial enzyme involved in protein metabolism, collagen turnover, and matrix remodeling. Mutations leading to loss of prolidase catalytic activity result in a rare metabolic disorder, while alterations in enzyme activity can serve as a useful biochemical marker for measuring disease severity. Additionally, recent studies highlight a non-enzymatic role of prolidase in cell regulation and infectious disease.
