Exploring the potential of Bacillus licheniformis AP1 for fermentive biohydrogen production using starch substrate: BBD based process parameter optimization

Neha Singh et al.

Summary: The performance of Bacillus licheniformis AP1 in hydrogen production from starch substrate was examined for the first time. The study enhanced the hydrogen yield by exploring various nutritional and environmental factors. By analyzing the impact of pH, iron sulphate, and nickel chloride, the optimal conditions for maximum hydrogen production were determined and experimentally validated.

Optimized degradation of bisphenol A by immobilized laccase from Trametes versicolor using Box-Behnken design (BBD) and artificial neural network (ANN)

Abdul Latif et al.

Summary: This study is one of the first attempts to degrade bisphenol A (BPA) using Trametes versicolor laccase immobilized on Ba-alginate beads. The effects of temperature, BPA concentration, and time on BPA degradation were investigated using Box-Behnken design and artificial neural network. The immobilized laccase showed higher storage stability and successfully degraded BPA, indicating its potential as a biocatalyst for treating organic pollutants.

Biodegradation of chlorpyrifos using isolates from contaminated agricultural soil, its kinetic studies

Muhammad Farhan et al.

Summary: Extensive pesticide use has negative impacts on the environment and humans. This study evaluated the bioremediation of chlorpyrifos in soil using indigenous Bacillus cereus Ct3, which showed high resistance and degradation ability. The research highlights the potential of Bacillus cereus Ct3 for successful bioremediation of chlorpyrifos-contaminated soils.

Microalgae-based removal of contaminants of emerging concern: Mechanisms in Chlorella vulgaris and mixed algal-bacterial cultures

Franja Prosenc et al.

Summary: The study found that a mixed microalgal-bacterial culture was more effective in removing bisphenols compared to Chlorella vulgaris; bisphenols with high log K-ow were mainly removed abiotically, while those with lower log K-ow were biodegraded; the removal efficiency and pathways of pharmaceuticals and EU Watch List substances were comparable in both cultures.
