Fit of zirconia fixed partial dentures fabricated from conventional impressions and digital scans: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Noha Morsy et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the fit accuracy of zirconia fixed partial dentures fabricated from conventional impressions and digital scans. The results showed that digital scans provided significantly better marginal and intaglio fit compared to conventional impressions. These findings provide important evidence, but further clinical studies are needed to support these results.

In vitro accuracy of digital and conventional impressions in the partially edentulous maxilla

Moritz Waldecker et al.

Summary: This in vitro study compared the dimensional accuracy of conventional impressions with that of digital impressions in a partially edentulous maxilla. Digital impressions showed better accuracy in shorter scan distances, while conventional impressions performed better in longer scan distances. The vertical and tooth axis deviations were significantly smaller for conventional impressions than for digital impressions.

Do cut out-rescan procedures have an impact on the accuracy of intraoral digital scans?

Sven Reich et al.

Summary: The purpose of the study was to determine whether cut out-rescan procedures change the accuracy of a 3D cast. Significant differences were found among the scanners, but cut out-rescan procedures did not affect the accuracy within each scanning system.

Accuracy of intraoral scanning in completely and partially edentulous maxillary and mandibular jaws: an in vitro analysis

Martin Schimmel et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of intraoral scanning in partially and completely edentulous arch models, finding high accuracy in vitro. Operator experience had minimal influence on the accuracy of the scans, with differences in trueness and precision seen among different models and operators.

Accuracy of complete-arch intraoral scans based on confocal microscopy versus optical triangulation: A comparative in vitro study

Moritz Waldecker et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of two intraoral scanners, showing that the TR scanner had better accuracy and precision than the OC scanner, making it suitable for the fabrication of inlays and short-span fixed partial dentures. Complete-arch scans had discrepancies that made them unsuitable for long-span fixed partial dentures.

Inlay-Retained Dental Bridges-A Finite Element Analysis

Monica Tatarciuc et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the stability and stress on supporting teeth of inlay-retained dental bridges using the finite element method (FEM) under masticatory forces. The analysis revealed that the stress from loading force does not cause damage to the prosthetic device or abutment teeth.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of intraoral scanners (IOS) used in vivo, proposing a specific methodology for measurement and comparison of accuracy. The results showed that accuracy worsened as the scanning area increased.

Full-arch accuracy of five intraoral scanners: In vivo analysis of trueness and precision

Miran Kwon et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the trueness and precision of full-arch scans acquired using five intraoral scanners and found that the type of scanner and the measured linear distances significantly affected the accuracy of the intraoral scan data. Errors in trueness and precision were observed with different scanners, with Omnicam showing greater errors in certain measurements compared to other scanners. The differences in dimensional accuracy of intraoral scan data based on scanner type were clinically significant.

Summary: This study found that specific training is highly recommended for achieving the best accuracy in complete arch scans, while nonspecific training also leads to an improvement in initial scanning accuracy for first-time users.
