Regenerative Potential of Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) in Socket Preservation in Comparison with Conventional Treatment Modalities: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Yasser Alrayyes et al.

Summary: This review evaluates the effect of PRF in socket and ridge preservation procedures and found that using PRF as a graft material can significantly preserve bone width, height, and density after tooth extraction. Compared to other commonly used grafting materials, PRF showed a lesser effect, but mixing PRF with a graft material yielded the best result.

Sinus Lift Associated with Leucocyte-Platelet-Rich Fibrin (Second Generation) for Bone Gain: A Systematic Review

Ada Isis Pelaez Otero et al.

Summary: This systematic review analyzed sinus lifting procedures and compared the efficiency of using the second generation of platelet-rich fibrin in bone gain. The results suggested that patients with residual bone <= 4 mm may have a higher risk for implant failure, and the application of PRF was effective in reducing the time needed for new bone formation in sinus lift procedures.

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Guided Bone Regeneration for Peri-Implant Dehiscence Defects with Two Anorganic Bovine Bone Materials Covered by Titanium Meshes

JaeHyung Lim et al.

Summary: This study compared two low-temperature sintered anorganic bovine bone materials, Bio-Oss and A-Oss, for guided bone regeneration in dehiscence defects. The results showed no significant differences in grafted volume changes or bone density between the two groups, with both materials and titanium meshes demonstrating successful outcomes in peri-implant defect regeneration.

Efficacy of biologics for the treatment of periodontal infrabony defects: An American Academy of Periodontology best evidence systematic review and network meta-analysis

Lorenzo Tavelli et al.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the efficacy of biologic agents in regenerative treatment of periodontal infrabony defects. The analysis showed that the addition of biologic agents to bone graft significantly improved clinical and radiographic outcomes. Different types of bone graft and biologic agents had varying effects on the final outcomes of infrabony defects.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different graft materials in patients with wide maxillary sinuses. The results showed that the combination of autogenous bone and xenogenic bone demonstrated better graft remodeling and bone formation compared to the addition of L-PRF.

Evaluation of regeneration after the application of 2 types of deproteinized bovine bone mineral to alveolar bone defects in adult dogs

Dajung Lee et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the preclinical results of two types of commercially available deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) in alveolar bone defects in dogs. Both DBBM groups showed similar histological findings and there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in linear and volumetric analyses. Further studies are needed to identify more specific differences between the two DBBMs.

Xenograft materials in maxillary sinus floor elevation surgery: a systematic review with network meta-analyses

J. V. D. S. Canellas et al.

Summary: This systematic review and network meta-analysis compared different commercially available xenograft materials used in maxillary sinus floor elevation surgery. Osteoplant Osteoxenon was found to produce the most newly-formed bone and be absorbed faster than other materials after six months. The combination of Bio-Oss with bone marrow aspirate concentrate significantly increased the percentage of newly-formed bone, while the addition of Emdogain and leucocyte and platelet-rich fibrin did not significantly improve bone regeneration.

Summary: The use of PRF significantly improved clinical outcomes in intrabony defects when compared to OFD alone, with similar levels observed between OFD/BG and OFD/PRF. Adding PRF to OFD/BG led to significant improvements in CAL and RBF.
