Quantized Gromov-Wasserstein

Samir Chowdhury et al.

Summary: The Gromov-Wasserstein (GW) framework allows for comparing probability distributions on different metric spaces, with recent algorithms enabling scalable computation of GW distances. The newly defined Quantized Gromov Wasserstein (qGW) introduces a metric treating parts as fundamental objects and fitting into a hierarchy of theoretical upper bounds. This formulation leads to a new algorithm for approximating optimal GW matchings, resulting in algorithmic speedups and reductions in memory complexity, allowing application at larger scales than previously seen in the literature.

Physics approach to the variable-mass optimal-transport problem

Patrice Koehl et al.

Summary: Optimal transport (OT) is a discipline offering solutions to various theoretical problems in probability and mathematics, with applications in imaging sciences, machine learning, and data sciences. The traditional OT problem has limitations, such as requiring normalized distributions with the same total mass. This paper introduces a generalized approach to OT, referred to as the discrete variable-mass optimal-transport (VMOT) problem, using techniques from statistical physics and proving its effectiveness by demonstrating its competitive time complexity and applications in shape-matching.

Multi-View 3D Shape Recognition via Correspondence-Aware Deep Learning

Yong Xu et al.

Summary: In recent years, multi-view learning has become a promising approach for 3D shape recognition by identifying shapes based on 2D views from different angles. This paper proposes a correspondence-aware representation (CAR) module that finds potential intra-view and cross-view correspondences through kNN search in semantic space and aggregates shape features via learned transforms. Incorporating the CAR module into a ResNet-18 backbone, an effective deep model called CAR-Net is introduced for 3D shape classification and retrieval, demonstrating the effectiveness and excellent performance of the CAR module.
