Caffeine adsorption on activated biochar derived from macrophytes (Eichornia crassipes)

Heloisa G. Zanella et al.

Summary: This work explored the use of macrophyte as raw material for producing activated biochar with CO2 as the activating agent. The activated biochar showed high surface area and basic surface character, and was effective in removing caffeine from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was found to be governed by chemisorption and the activation was spontaneous and endothermic.

Natural core-shell structure activated carbon beads derived from Litsea glutinosa seeds for removal of methylene blue: Facile preparation, characterization, and adsorption properties

My Uyen Dao et al.

Summary: In this study, natural core-shell structure activated carbon beads (ACBs) from Litsea glutinosa seeds were successfully produced for adsorption of methylene blue (MB). The ACBs displayed highly porous natural core-shell spheres and showed a maximum adsorption capacity of 29.03 mg/g at optimal conditions. The primary contributions to the adsorption mechanism were identified as electrostatic attraction, pi-pi interaction, hydrogen bonding, and pore-filling.
