Biosynthesis Regulation of Folates and Phenols in Plants

Anna Kolton et al.

Summary: The latest knowledge on the biosynthesis of folates and polyphenols is summarized, highlighting the factors influencing their accumulation in plants, particularly focusing on the quality and quantity of light. Both folates and phenolic compounds play essential roles in various biological processes, including gene regulation, protein expression, and stress responses. Light not only serves as an energy source for plants but also regulates the synthesis and accumulation of important metabolites, such as folates and polyphenolic compounds, necessary for normal plant function.

Environmental impacts due to the use of sunscreen products: a mini-review

Myrto Chatzigianni et al.

Summary: Sunscreen use has been on the rise in recent years to combat the damaging effects of solar radiation, with UV filters incorporated to protect skin tissue. These UV agents have serious impacts on bio communities and can accumulate in marine environments. However, their instability in water can lead to the formation of unwanted by-products, posing potential risks to aquatic organisms. Further studies are needed to fully understand the environmental implications of UV agents, particularly in marine ecosystems.

Extraction and characterization of phenolic compounds and their potential antioxidant activities

Linghong Shi et al.

Summary: Plants have been widely used in medicine and are an important part of the human diet. Phenolic compounds, with their high antioxidant capacity, have attracted scientists' attention. Although the extraction of these compounds has certain difficulties due to their instability, the extraction technology has become stable over the years. Concentration and separation methods are applied to enhance the value of plant extracts, and characterization methods are used to evaluate the phenolic compounds. Antioxidant assays are widely performed to test the extracts' antioxidant capacity. This paper provides an overview of methods used in phenolic compound extraction, separation, and characterization, and presents the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques.
