Machine translation systems and quality assessment: a systematic review

Irene Rivera-Trigueros

Summary: In the current globalized context, machine translation is gaining popularity as a potential solution to language barriers, with neural machine translation emerging as the predominant paradigm and Google Translator being the most used system. Research findings show that most works utilized either automatic or human evaluation for assessing machine translation, with only 22% combining both. However, more than half of the works included error classification and analysis, crucial for identifying flaws and enhancing the performance of MT systems.
