The radiochemistry laboratory at Soochow University handles various radionuclides with different half-lives and modes of radiation emission in liquid, solid, and gas forms, making it potentially hazardous. The importance of implementing safety precautions and radiation protection strategies before conducting experiments in such laboratories is emphasized in this work. The practical knowledge gained from a case of radioactive contamination is discussed to provide valuable experience for safely conducting radiochemistry experiments.
A radiochemistry laboratory presents potential radiologicalhazardsdue to the handling of multiple radionuclides with various half-livesand modes of radiation emission. To minimize these hazards, appropriatesafety management and radiation protection strategies should be inplace. The radiochemistry laboratory at Soochow University is onesuch workplace that handles therapeutic radionuclides, fission products, and actinides in liquid, solid, and gas forms. This work highlightsthe significance of using safety precautions and radiation protectionstrategies before conducting experiments in such laboratories. Thepractical knowledge gained from a case of radioactive contaminationis discussed to provide valuable experience for safely conductingradiochemistry experiments.
