Photodegradation of catechol in water over magnetically separable Fe3O4/TiO2 composite photocatalysts

Mahsa Tahergorabi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the photocatalytic degradation of catechol using illuminated Fe3O4/TiO2 nanoparticles and investigated the impacts of key variables. The results showed that under optimal conditions, the nanoparticles could completely degrade catechol, with the main degradation products being o-Benzoquinone, 1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene, 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene, and organic acids. The UV/Fe3O4/TiO2 method had lower electrical-energy consumption compared to other methods, and the addition of H2O2 improved the degradation efficiency, although organic compounds had an inhibitory effect on the removal efficiency.

High-efficiency TiO2/ZnO nanocomposites photocatalysts by sol-gel and hydrothermal methods

Ningna Bai et al.

Summary: TiO2/ZnO nanocomposites with different Ti/Zn ratios were successfully synthesized by sol-gel and hydrothermal methods, exhibiting excellent photocatalytic performance. The degradation rate of methylene blue by TiO2/ZnO nanocomposites with a Ti/Zn ratio of 2:1 was close to 100%, outperforming other samples. The improved catalytic performance was attributed to the ability to separate holes and electrons.
