Characterizing the Nature of a Multi-Regional Trucking Network Using the Network Robustness Index: An Application to Ontario, Canada

Georgiana Vani et al.

Summary: A robust road transportation network is crucial for freight activity and economic productivity. This paper uses the Network Robustness Index to study the characteristics of the transportation network in Ontario, Canada, and finds that heavily travelled highways and roads connected to the northern regions of the province are more likely to experience severe disruption. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers in identifying the most critical segments of the network and potential events that may occur.

The Spatial Structure Evolution of China's High-Speed Rail Network and Its Impacts on Real Estate Investment

Haoran Yang et al.

Summary: The expansion of China's high-speed rail network improves connectivity between cities and tends to make urban systems more polycentric; the high-speed rail network promotes spatial agglomeration of real estate investment in cities along the rail line; factors such as population size, manufacturing scale, per capita GDP, and openness have a greater impact on real estate investment than high-speed rail network connection.

Ethnic geography: Measurement and evidence

Roland Hodler et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a novel index of ethnic segregation that considers both ethnic and spatial distances between individuals, which can be decomposed into various sub-indices. The study found that different versions of the segregation index are highly correlated, with implications for measuring ethnic segregation and diversity.

A POI group recommendation method in location-based social networks based on user influence

Zahra Bahari Sojahrood et al.

Summary: Group recommendation using location-based social networks has attracted research attention. This paper proposes a method for point of interest (POI) group recommendation that considers user influence modeled fuzzily, historical check-in data, and factors like category, distance, and time. Experimental results show improved accuracy in POI group recommendations, especially when user influence is calculated using the fuzzy approach. The study also reveals differences in user behavior when choosing places to visit alone or in a group.
