Identifying urban candidate brownfield sites using multi-source data: The case of Changchun City, China

Yang Song et al.

Summary: Brownfield remediation has become an important issue for urban economic transition and revival, providing various benefits to cities. However, there is a lack of comprehensive data on the spatial distribution of urban candidate brownfield sites in China. This study presents a new method for identifying these sites using multi-source data, and tests it in the central region of Changchun, resulting in the identification of 146 candidate brownfield sites. The collected data and methodology can be utilized as quantitative tools for urban geography, urban design, and landscape architecture.

The case study of Bekaert S.A. demonstrates the effectiveness of a peripheral CSR approach in managing and redeveloping a brownfield site, highlighting the importance of enabling conditions for its implementation.
