Exploring Retention, Usage, and Efficacy of Web-Based Delivery of Positive Emotion Regulation Skills During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Elizabeth L. Addington et al.

Summary: COVID-19 has led to increased reliance on digital mental health interventions. This study examined the engagement and impact of self-guided, web-based positive affect regulation skills during the pandemic and found that using these skills was associated with improved anxiety and social isolation.

Internet-delivered cognitive and behavioural based interventions for adults with chronic pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Milena Gandy et al.

Summary: This study examined the efficacy of internet-delivered cognitive and behavioural interventions for adults with chronic pain and found small effect sizes for various pain management outcomes. The results suggest that guided interventions are associated with greater clinical gains, particularly in terms of interference/disability, anxiety, and pain intensity. The use of inactive control trials also showed greater effects for depression.

Are Positive Psychology Interventions Efficacious in Chronic Pain Treatment? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Celine Braunwalder et al.

Summary: This study aimed to summarize evidence on the effect of positive psychology interventions (PPIs) on pain, physical functioning, and emotional functioning in adults with chronic pain. Results showed that PPIs were beneficial for pain intensity and emotional functioning in the short term, but limited evidence was found for long-term efficacy and physical functioning. Further high-quality research is needed to support the conclusion that PPIs are beneficial for chronic pain treatment.

Lessons in Affect Regulation to Keep Stress and Pain UndeR control (LARKSPUR): Design of a randomized controlled trial to increase positive affect in middle-aged and older adults with fibromyalgia

Anthony D. Ong et al.

Summary: This article describes the rationale and design of an online positive affect skills intervention called LARKSPUR, which aims to improve positive emotions in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). The study will evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and impact of the intervention on pain outcomes. If the feasibility and acceptability metrics are met and reductions in pain outcomes are achieved, further efficacy and effectiveness trials will be conducted.

Analyzing Individual Differences in Intervention-Related Changes

Summary: Analyzing individual differences in intervention studies can provide valuable information, but may be influenced by methodological artifacts. Predicting changes with baseline data and analyzing correlated change are two common approaches that can offer valuable insights about individuals in interventions.
