Exploring the spatial heterogeneity of urban heat island effect and its relationship to block morphology with the geographically weighted regression model

How can the urban landscape affect urban vitality at the street block level? A case study of 15 metropolises in China

Summary: This study quantitatively examined the relationship between urban landscape and urban vitality at the street block level in 15 Chinese metropolises. The city plan pattern was found to have the highest effect on stimulating vitality, followed by land use and building form. Vibrant blocks were characterized by convenient transportation, compact block form, diverse buildings, mixed land use, and high buildings. The effects of the urban landscape showed spatial variations and diurnal discrepancies, with over 20% and 33% of blocks identified as low-vitality during the day and night, respectively.
