Psychotic-like experiences during COVID-19 lockdown among adolescents: Prevalence, risk and protective factors

Dongfang Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on the mental health of Chinese adolescents. The results revealed that PLEs were relatively common in this population, with a higher prevalence among senior high school students. Female gender, history of mental disorders or chronic physical illness, exposure to infected relatives or friends, prolonged media coverage exposure, and childhood trauma were associated with more frequent PLEs, while higher resilience and perceived social support were associated with decreased odds of frequent PLEs. These findings highlight the importance of developing intervention measures for mental health during pandemic lockdown.

Exploring the relation between psychosis-like experiences and suicidal ideation, plans, and attempts among college students in the United States

Samantha Y. Jay et al.

Summary: The suicide rate among college students is high, and psychosis-like experiences (PLEs) are associated with increased risk. Certain subtypes of PLEs, such as delusional mood, suspiciousness, and hallucinatory experiences, contribute to a higher likelihood of suicide outcomes. Additionally, the number of PLEs endorsed is dose-dependently related to all three suicide outcomes.

Sleep disturbance and psychotic-like experiences among urban adolescents with and without parental migration

Dongfang Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between sleep disturbance and psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) among urban adolescents. The results showed that sleep disturbance was a significant risk factor for PLEs, and urban left-behind children were more susceptible to these issues. Furthermore, improving family function and school climate were found to reduce the risk of PLEs.

A latent profile analysis of sleep disturbance in relation to mental health among college students in China

Chunping Chen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the subclassification characteristics of sleep disturbance (SD) in college students and their associations with sample characteristic factors and mental health outcomes. Three subtypes of SD in college students were identified: high SD profile, mild SD profile, and no SD profile. Male gender, poor parental marital status, and being a sophomore were identified as risk factors for high SD. College students in the mild SD or high SD profiles were more likely to have higher levels of depressive symptoms and psychotic-like experiences, as well as lower resilience levels.

Longitudinal trajectories of insomnia symptoms among college students during the COVID-19 lockdown in China

Dongfang Wang et al.

Summary: This study examined the patterns and predictors of college students' insomnia symptoms during different stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Five insomnia symptom trajectories were identified: resistance, recovery, delayed-dysfunction, chronic-dysfunction, and relapsing/remitting. Female gender, urban residence location, history of sleep problems, smoking, alcohol use, confirmed COVID-19 cases in the community, poor mental health, and negative coping were associated with a higher risk of developing insomnia symptoms. Better family function increased the possibility of recovery. Lower social support and positive coping could lead to chronicity. These findings highlight the importance of individualized and appropriate intervention for college students' mental health after returning to school.

Association between Sleep and Suicidal Ideation in Chinese Undergraduate Students

Ran Wu et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between suicide ideation and subjective sleep quality, sleep hygiene, and insomnia symptoms in undergraduate students in China. The results show that poor sleep quality, short sleep duration, poor sleep hygiene, and insomnia symptoms are associated with suicidal ideation in this population. Additionally, factors such as sharing a bedroom, relationship with roommates, sleep duration, sleep medicine use, and daytime function are also related to suicidal ideation. Therefore, sleep interventions may be an effective approach to suicide prevention.

Effects of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) on quality of life: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Zainab Alimoradi et al.

Summary: The effects of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) on quality of life (QoL) have been inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized the evidence of CBT-I efficacy on QoL outcomes across different populations, delivery modes, and methodological aspects. The overall pooled estimate showed a moderate effect of CBT-I in improving QoL. However, further studies are needed to explore the impact of moderating factors.
