Changes in Autistic Symptoms and Adaptive Functioning of Children Receiving Early Behavioral Intervention in a Community Setting: A Latent Growth Curve Analysis

Summary: This study examined the changes in symptoms and adaptive functioning in children with autism receiving early intensive behavioral intervention (EBI) in a community setting. The results showed nonlinear improvements in adaptive functioning during the intervention and a small linear decrease in autistic symptoms from baseline to follow-up. The intensity of intervention, initial age, IQ, and autistic symptoms were found to be associated with progress or maintenance during the intervention and follow-up.

Long-Term Interparental Conflict Behavior and Knowledge Change After a Brief Family Intervention

Summary: This study used multilevel models to investigate the improvement of interparental constructive conflict behavior, conflict resolution, and conflict knowledge up to 3 years after intervention in the Family Communication Project (FCP). The results showed that parents in the two treatment conditions exhibited nonlinear improvement, with baseline marital hostility moderating this change. Fathers had stronger long-term treatment effects for conflict knowledge, and higher marital adjustment among fathers predicted less decline in dyadic conflict resolution after intervention.

Dyadic longitudinal models: A critical review

Summary: In this review, the most commonly used models for analyzing dyadic longitudinal data are discussed. The definition of dyadic longitudinal data is provided to help researchers determine the appropriateness of these models. The three major models commonly used for dyadic longitudinal data, including the dyadic growth curve model (DGCM), the actor-partner interdependence model (APIM), and the common fate growth model (CFGM), are described. The discussion includes indications for each model, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Additional thoughts are presented on the extension of new methods and challenges in collecting and analyzing dyadic longitudinal data, which may be helpful for future researchers in this field.
