A high-resolution trajectory data driven method for real-time evaluation of traffic safety

Yuping Hu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for real-time evaluation of road safety based on high-resolution trajectory data, which combines traffic states and conflicts to explore the internal relationship. Machine learning methods are applied for real-time evaluation. The results show that the proposed method can accurately estimate conflict risk, contributing to the improvement of real-time traffic safety and safety management.

A Bayesian correlated grouped random parameters duration model with heterogeneity in the means for understanding braking behaviour in a connected environment

Yasir Ali et al.

Summary: This study examines the braking behavior of drivers in response to a pedestrian at a zebra crossing in a connected environment. The results show that in the connected environment, drivers take longer to reduce their speed, and the braking time is influenced by factors such as the distance to the pedestrian and the gender of the driver.

Using bus critical driving events as surrogate safety measures for pedestrian and bicycle crashes based on GPS trajectory data

Pei Li et al.

Summary: This study utilized critical bus driving events extracted from GPS trajectory data as surrogate safety measures for pedestrian and bicycle crashes at bus stops. The analysis showed a positive correlation between these driving events and pedestrian and bicycle crashes. A Bayesian negative binomial model incorporating spatial correlation was built to estimate the impact of these events on the frequency of pedestrian and bicycle crashes, with results consistent with the correlation estimation.

Crash data augmentation using variational autoencoder

Zubayer Islam et al.

Summary: In this study, a data augmentation technique using variational autoencoder was proposed to reproduce crash data effectively. The generated data showed high statistical similarity to real data and outperformed other oversampling techniques like SMOTE and ADASYN in terms of specificity and sensitivity. The flexibility in decision boundary choice provided by VAE helped to overcome overfitting issues present in other methods.
