Expanding Tidy Data Principles to Facilitate Missing Data Exploration, Visualization and Assessment of Imputations

Nicholas Tierney et al.

Summary: Despite existing research on missing value distribution and imputation, there is limited literature on making the handling, exploration, and imputation of missing values easier. This paper addresses this gap by introducing a new methodology that incorporates missing value handling as a key component of data analysis workflows. The methodology includes a new data structure and set of operations that provide a connected framework for handling, exploring, and imputing missing values. These methods are implemented in the R package naniar.

Determinants of a decline in a nutrition risk measure differ by baseline high nutrition risk status: targeting nutrition risk screening for frailty prevention in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA)

Heather H. Keller et al.

Summary: This study identified the determinants of a 3-year decline in nutrition risk for older adults stratified by risk status at baseline. Different factors were associated with the change in nutrition risk for those with no risk and those who were already at high risk, suggesting the need for targeted approaches in screening and treatment of nutrition risk in primary care.

Social Network Factors Affect Nutrition Risk in Middle-Aged and Older Adults: Results from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging

C. M. Mills et al.

Summary: This study used data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging to examine the association between social network, demographic, and health-indicator variables with SCREEN-8 scores. The results indicated that individuals with low social participation, low social standing, and low social support had higher nutrition risk. These findings suggest the importance of proactive screening for nutrition risk in individuals with low social engagement, as well as the need for interventions to increase social participation and support in order to reduce nutrition risk prevalence.

Consensus-Based Nutrition Care Pathways for Hospital-to-Community Transitions and Older Adults in Primary and Community Care

Heather Keller et al.

Summary: This study developed evidence- and consensus-based nutrition care pathways for adult patients at risk for malnutrition transitioning from hospital to community, with input from diverse stakeholders. Survey results showed high ratings of >= 80% for relevance and importance of most nutrition care practices. These pathways offer flexible guidance for different primary care and community models.

Social isolation trajectories in midlife and later-life: patterns and associations with health

Mengsha Luo et al.

Summary: This study examined trajectories of both objective and subjective social isolation and identified four patterns of social isolation. The results showed a gradient in health outcomes across these patterns, with the rare objective and low subjective isolation group having the best health outcomes and the severe isolation group having the worst health outcomes.

Primer on binary logistic regression

Jenine K. Harris

Summary: Family medicine has traditionally focused on patient care rather than research, but recent recommendations emphasize the importance of improving research methods in the field. Binary logistic regression is a commonly used method in family medicine research for classifying, explaining, or predicting certain characteristics, behaviors, or outcomes. The model relies on assumptions including independent observations, no perfect multicollinearity, and linearity, and produces odds ratios to indicate changes in the odds of belonging to specific outcome categories based on predictor values.

The relationship of nutritional risk with diet quality and health outcomes in community-dwelling older adults

Ilse Bloom et al.

Summary: This study compared nutrition risk scores calculated from a short checklist with diet quality and health outcomes in older adults. The findings suggest that higher nutrition risk scores are associated with poorer diet quality, indicating potential for this screening approach to detect nutritional risk in older populations.
