Relations of computational thinking to reasoning ability and creative thinking in young children: Mediating role of arithmetic fluency

Weiqi Xu et al.

Summary: Computational thinking (CT) is an important skill for humans in the 21st century. This study proposed a model to explore the relationships between CT and arithmetic fluency, reasoning ability, and creative thinking. The results showed significant relationships between CT and arithmetic fluency, reasoning ability, and creative thinking. Additionally, arithmetic fluency fully mediated the relationship between CT and reasoning ability, while it did not mediate the relationship between CT and creative thinking. These findings suggest the importance of incorporating CT into early education.

Gender Differences in Creative Potential: A Meta-Analysis of Mean Differences and Variability

Ahmed M. Abdulla Alabbasi et al.

Summary: This study uses meta-analysis to examine gender differences in divergent thinking (DT). The results show that females slightly outperform males in DT. The findings support the gender similarity hypothesis in mean differences and tend to support the gender differences hypothesis in variation.

Visuospatial, rather than verbal working memory capacity plays a key role in verbal and figural creativity

Runhao Lu et al.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between working memory capacity (WMC) and creativity through measurements and experiments. The findings suggest that participants with higher visuospatial WMC perform better in creative tasks. Experiments indicated that interfering with participants' visuospatial WMC significantly decreased their creative performances.

Gender differences in creativity: Examining the greater male variability hypothesis in different domains and tasks

Christa L. Taylor et al.

Summary: The Greater Male Variability Hypothesis suggests that males have greater variability in cognitive ability than females. However, two studies on creative writing and drawing tasks found that there were no substantive differences in variability between males and females. Gender differences in creative variability may vary inconsistently across domains and tasks.
