From protests into pandemic: demographic change in Hong Kong, 2019-2021

Stuart Gietel-Basten et al.

Summary: Compared to other regions, Hong Kong had very low rates of COVID-19 infection and death until 2022 due to government interventions and community action. However, aside from epidemiological factors, Hong Kong has also undergone significant social and political changes since the 2019 social movement and the implementation of the National Security Law. This study examines changes in fertility and marriage rates in Hong Kong from 2015 to 2021, considering the impact of the social movement and the COVID-19 pandemic, and differentiating between Hong Kong-born and non-Hong Kong-born populations, particularly migrants from the Mainland.

Prevalence and characteristics of childfree adults in Michigan (USA)

Jennifer Watling Neal et al.

Summary: Research indicates that childfree individuals make up around a quarter of Michigan adults. Childfree individuals do not differ significantly from parents, not-yet-parents, or childless individuals in terms of life satisfaction and personality traits. However, they tend to be more liberal, and parents or individuals who have or want children feel less warmth towards childfree individuals.
