A systematic review and meta-analysis of the effect of cognitive interventions to prevent intrusive memories using the trauma film paradigm

Summary: There is a need for effective early interventions to reduce trauma symptoms and PTSD. A meta-analysis on cognitive interventions targeting intrusions found moderate effect sizes in reducing intrusion frequency and PTSD symptoms. Visuospatial interference tasks were more effective than verbal tasks. More research is needed to test the clinical translation of cognitive interventions in reducing intrusive memories of real trauma.
