Summary: This study proposes three machine learning models to estimate flight block time for commercial airlines based on explanatory variables known during the flight planning process. Data from 2019 domestic flights in the U.S. is collected to analyze the variability of actual block time and identify significant factors influencing the variations. The results indicate that seasonality, aircraft type, departure/arrival hour, and airport congestion are important variables in explaining block time variations. However, the ML models show limited accuracy in predicting block time compared to a median-based approach. The study also evaluates the trade-off between block time padding and expected flight delays, as well as the differences in airlines' block time padding strategies.

Summary: Current state-of-the-art airline planning models have computational limitations. This article explores the applicability of machine learning techniques for airline planning and develops an A2C algorithm for fleet planning. The experimental results show that the A2C algorithm outperforms deterministic models and deep Q-network algorithm in terms of computational efficiency and complexity.

Summary: This study analyzed the future career prospects for Hong Kong aviation students in the post-pandemic period, finding that there was no significant difference in perceived career obstacles between students with and without specialized training. However, final-year students felt they lacked non-technical skills more than non-final-year students. Additionally, students showed an increasing interest in broadening their career options.

Summary: This study explores Australian undergraduate aviation students' perceptions of the industry and the skills needed for success post-COVID-19. Findings suggest students recognize the industry oversupply and are seeking support in developing non-technical skills to enhance competitiveness post-graduation. Universities should adapt programs to better prepare students for challenges in the post-COVID-19 aviation industry.

Summary: Convective weather has caused significant delays in European airspace in recent years, and climate experts predict an increase in frequency and intensity in the future. By analyzing historical data and using machine learning algorithms, solutions can be found to mitigate the impact of convective weather events. The study developed regression and classification supervised learning algorithms to predict airspace performance characteristics, with data sources including EUROCONTROL and EUMETSAT.

Summary: This study used causal machine learning algorithms to predict the probability of flight delays in air transportation. The results showed that factors such as reported arrivals and departures, airport demands, capacity, efficiency, and traffic volume significantly impact the risk of flight delays, with causal relationships and network models demonstrating how these factors interact.

Summary: This research focuses on using machine learning algorithms to predict the demand for air taxi urban air mobility (UAM) services in different geographic regions of New York City at different times of the day. The experimental results suggest that gradient boosting consistently provides higher prediction performance, and specific locations, time periods, and weekdays have emerged as critical predictors.
