An SPRI beads-based DNA purification strategy for flexibility and cost-effectiveness

Danli Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes an efficient DNA purification approach by combining home-made beads-suspension buffer with SPRI beads. The critical concentrations of PEG 8000 and beads were determined to optimize the SPRI beads DNA purification system. An adjustable SPRI beads DNA purification system was also developed, which has a much lower cost compared to the commercially available one. The results show that both methods have comparable performance to the control and provide a flexible way for DNA manipulation.

Draft Genome Sequence of the Multidrug-Resistant Citrobacter freundii 132-2 Strain Isolated from a Domestic Duck in Bangladesh

Tarana Ahmed et al.

Summary: We sequenced a multidrug-resistant strain of Citrobacter freundii, 132-2, which was isolated from a cloacal swab sample of a domestic duck. The whole genome of the C. freundii 132-2 strain had a length of 5,097,592 bp, 62 contigs, two plasmids, and an average G+C content of 51.85%, with a 105.0x genome coverage.

Detection of a clinical carbapenem-resistant Citrobacter portucalensis strain and the dissemination of C. portucalensis in clinical settings

Xiaoli Cao et al.

Summary: This study characterized a clinical carbapenem-resistant Citrobacter portucalensis through whole-genome sequencing, revealing several misidentified C. portucalensis genomes as C. freundii in GenBank and underestimating its clinical occurrence. The strain displayed extensive drug resistance and carried multiple resistance determinants, including the bla(NDM-1) gene.
