Trust, social capital, and the bond market benefits of ESG performance

Summary: We investigate the impact of a firm's social capital and trust on bondholders' view. We find no relation between social capital and bond spreads, but high-social-capital firms benefit from lower bond spreads during the financial crisis. These effects are stronger for firms with higher expected agency costs of debt and firms with more significant environmental and social efforts.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of environmental uncertainty of the host country on the choice of entry mode and the moderating role of technological heterogeneity in this relationship. Based on the resource-based view and institutional theory framework, the study analyzed investment motivation of emerging industries and environmental uncertainty from two dimensions. Empirical testing conducted on 173 overseas investment events in China's high-end equipment sector from 2010-2018 revealed that industry environment uncertainty influences entry mode choices, while technological capability weakens the impact of environmental uncertainty.

MNE dynamic capabilities in (un)related diversification

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic capabilities utilized by multinational enterprises (MNEs) to support their related or unrelated diversification activities. The research identifies three principal processes underlying dynamic capabilities, namely sensing opportunities, seizing opportunities, and transforming resources. The study also reveals the different micro foundations of performing each of these processes, as well as the configurational nature of dynamic capabilities in relation to related and unrelated diversification activities. The findings contribute to the understanding of MNE diversification and the micro foundations of dynamic capabilities.

Subsidized or Not, the Impact of Firm Internationalization on Green Innovation-Based on a Dynamic Panel Threshold Model

Summary: This study explores the non-linear relationship between internationalization and green innovation performance using panel data from Chinese listed firms. The results show a U-shaped relationship between internationalization and green innovation. Subsidies can facilitate green innovation, but only when they exceed a certain threshold. State-owned enterprises, non-coastal enterprises, and enterprises with environmental information disclosure have higher subsidy thresholds and are more capable of stimulating green innovation output.
