Network structure and pricing in the FX market

Joel Hasbrouck et al.

Summary: The study found that more central counterparties in trades receive higher returns, and this difference increases as their centralities diverge. This suggests the existence of a pervasive centrality premium, partly offset by losses incurred by central agents in supplying liquidity.

Discriminatory Pricing of Over-the-Counter Derivatives

Harald Hau et al.

Summary: Based on new regulatory data, it is shown that price discrimination against nonfinancial clients exists in the foreign exchange derivatives market. Transaction costs for clients vary systematically with their level of sophistication. However, this discrimination is eliminated when clients trade electronically on multidealer platforms. Less sophisticated clients incur additional costs when trading with their relationship bank and in fast-moving markets, but only for bilaterally negotiated contracts.

Inventory Management, Dealers' Connections, and Prices in Over-the-Counter Markets

Jean-Edouard Colliard et al.

Summary: In the proposed trading model, dealers accumulate inventories by trading with end-investors and reduce costs by trading among each other. Core dealers use more efficient trading technology, while peripheral dealers are connected to core dealers and engage in bilateral trading. Prices and allocations are affected by connectedness only when peripheral dealers have a non-zero aggregate inventory position, leading to increased price dispersion with the size of this position. The model offers new predictions on the impact of dealers' connectedness and aggregate inventories on prices.
