Ocular and Hemodynamic Factors Contributing to the Central Visual Function in Glaucoma Patients With Myopia

Kyung Euy Hong et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the ocular and hemodynamic factors contributing to the central visual function in glaucoma patients with myopia. The results showed that there were significant differences in the deep layer vascular density of the peripapillary and macular areas between mild and moderate-to-severe myopia. Structural parameters, especially the ratio of peripapillary atrophy to disc area, were significantly correlated with peripapillary vascular density in myopic eyes. Lower SDNN value, lower deep vascular density of the macular area, and greater fluctuation of deep vascular density in the peripapillary area were associated with the presence of central scotoma in patients with glaucoma with myopia.

Longitudinal Macular Ganglion Cell-Inner Plexiform Layer Measurements to Detect Glaucoma Progression in High Myopia

Joong Won Shin et al.

Summary: The study showed that progressive GCIPL thinning in highly myopic eyes was predictive of an increased risk of VF progression, while progressive RNFL thinning was not significantly associated with VF progression; in eyes without high myopia, both progressive GCIPL and RNFL thinning were significantly associated with an increased risk of VF progression.

Adduction-Induced Strain on the Optic Nerve in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma at Normal Intraocular Pressure

Robert A. Clark et al.

Summary: The study found that in healthy individuals, the optic nerve stretches to absorb force and prevent globe retraction during adduction, while in POAG patients, the relatively inelastic optic nerve tethers and retracts the globe during adduction beyond 26 degrees, potentially leading to progressive neuropathy.

Predicting the development of normal tension glaucoma and related risk factors in normal tension glaucoma suspects

Hae-Young Lopilly Park et al.

Summary: The study found that 12.6% of NTG suspects converted to NTG over a 5-6 year period. NTG suspects taking medication for systemic hypertension, with disc torsion in the inferotemporal direction, and thinner LC at baseline were at greater risk of NTG conversion. Related baseline risk factors differed between myopic and non-myopic NTG suspects.
