Role of EPA in Inflammation: Mechanisms, Effects, and Clinical Relevance

Rosalia Crupi et al.

Summary: Chronic inflammatory processes play a role in disease progression, particularly in atherosclerosis. Targeted anti-inflammatory treatment shows promise in reducing cardiovascular risk. Long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as EPA have cardioprotective effects and beneficial effects on atherosclerotic plaques.

Lowering n-6/n-3 Ratio as an Important Dietary Intervention to Prevent LPS-Inducible Dyslipidemia and Hepatic Abnormalities in ob/ob Mice

Seohyun Park et al.

Summary: Obesity is closely associated with chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia, and the consumption of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) may regulate obesity-related disorders. This study aimed to investigate the importance of n-3 PUFA consumption, including the ratio of n-6/n-3 PUFAs and the amount of n-3 PUFAs. The results suggest that a dietary intervention with a lower n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio can significantly alleviate metabolic dysfunction in LPS-induced ob/ob mice.
