Understanding complex genetic architecture of rice grain weight through QTL-meta analysis and candidate gene identification

C. Anilkumar et al.

Summary: In this study, we conducted a QTL meta-analysis to identify consistent QTL regions for rice grain weight. We collected QTL information from multiple studies and found three significant Meta-QTL on chromosome 3 that are associated with grain weight. These Meta-QTL include genes involved in grain development and asparagine biosynthesis, which play important roles in source-sink regulation. Our findings have implications for marker assisted breeding and map-based cloning programs aiming to improve rice grain weight.

Pathogen-inducible OsMPKK10.2-OsMPK6 cascade phosphorylates the Raf-like kinase OsEDR1 and inhibits its scaffold function to promote rice disease resistance

Haigang Ma et al.

Summary: In rice defense response, the Raf-like MAPKKK OsEDR1 inhibits the activity of the MAPK cascade by interacting with OsMPKK10.2, leading to enhanced resistance of rice plants to the bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola. This study provides new insights into the regulatory role of Raf-like kinases in plant immunity.

A nonproteinaceous Fusarium cell wall extract triggers receptor-like protein-dependent immune responses in Arabidopsis and cotton

Kevin Babilonia et al.

Summary: The cell wall extract FoCWE from Fusarium oxysporum functions as a race-nonspecific elicitor triggering immune responses in plants, potentially enhancing crop resistance to diseases. Plant responses to FoCWE do not involve typical PAMP perception and signaling pathways, but require specific receptor-like proteins for protection against pathogens. The findings suggest that FoCWE is a classical PAMP recognized by a novel pattern-recognition receptor, regulating plant resistance to Fusarium infections.

Coordinated bacterial and plant sulfur metabolism in Enterobacter sp. SA187-induced plant salt stress tolerance

Cristina Andres-Barrao et al.

Summary: Enterobacter sp. SA187, a root endophytic bacterium, plays a crucial role in enhancing salt stress tolerance in plants by modulating the sulfur metabolic pathways. SA187 partially rescues the deficiency of sulfur metabolism components in the chloroplast, positively impacting the plant's response to salt stress.

Meta-QTLs, ortho-MQTLs and candidate genes for the traits contributing to salinity stress tolerance in common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Neeraj Pal et al.

Summary: A meta-analysis of QTLs associated with salinity tolerance in wheat identified 100 stable and consistent meta-QTLs, with 81 candidate genes identified within high-confidence MQTL regions. The average confidence interval of the resulted MQTLs was reduced by 4.16 folds compared to the initial QTLs, indicating a high level of reliability in these loci. Additionally, ortho-MQTL analysis revealed six orthologous MQTLs among wheat, rice, and barley, providing insights into shared genetic mechanisms for salinity tolerance across these cereals.
