Parkinson's disease related alterations in cannabinoid transmission

Monavareh Soti et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons. Recent studies have shown that modulation of GABA and cannabinoid receptors can improve motor functions in Parkinson's disease patients. Therefore, investigating the changes of cannabinoid receptors in different stages of the disease and utilizing them in treatment could be significant for Parkinson's disease management.

Early environmental enrichment prevents cognitive impairments and developing addictive behaviours in a mouse model of prenatal psychological and physical stress

Moazamehosadat Razavinasab et al.

Summary: Environmental enrichment (EE) has been shown to improve cognition and addictive behavior, as well as aid in recovery from prenatal stress exposure. Prenatal stress can lead to increased anxiety-like behavior in offspring, but this can be significantly alleviated by EE after weaning. While EE can improve cognitive behavior significantly for the stress group, some outcomes linked to prenatal stress exposure may not be diminished by EE therapy. Large-scale preventive actions promoting avoidance from stress during pregnancy should be advised.

Phytohormone abscisic acid elicits positive effects on harmaline-induced cognitive and motor disturbances in a rat model of essential tremor

Mohammad Shabani et al.

Summary: The study found that abscisic acid can improve harmaline-induced tremors in rats, significantly increasing the time spent on wire grip and rotarod tests, and has a promising effect against cognitive impairments induced by harmaline.

Dopamine-dependent early synaptic and motor dysfunctions induced by a-synuclein in the nigrostriatal circuit

Alessandro Tozzi et al.

Summary: The study identified that alpha-synuclein disrupts dopamine system and striatal synaptic plasticity in early stages of Parkinson's disease. Subchronic treatment with L-DOPA was able to rescue alpha-synuclein-induced alterations, showing the critical role of dysfunctional dopamine system in disease progression.
