Extraction Optimization of Arctium lappa L. Polysaccharides by Box-Behnken Response Surface Design and Their Antioxidant Capacity

Jiawei Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the extraction conditions of Arctium lappa L polysaccharides (ALP) in hot water were optimized using a Box-Behnken response surface design. The influence of different degreasing methods on polysaccharide yield was investigated for the first time, and their antioxidant activity was compared. The results showed that ALP has potential antioxidant capacity, indicating its potential use as a functional food ingredient or nutraceutical.

Phytochemicals and Biological Activities of Burdock (Arctium lappa L.) Extracts: A Review

Ariadine Reder Custodio de Souza et al.

Summary: Burdock, also known as Arctium lappa L., is a valuable plant in the biological and medical fields, containing phenolic compounds and terpenes with antioxidant, antimicrobial, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory properties. Burdock leaf extracts have shown the ability to modulate the complement system, which plays a crucial role in inflammatory diseases. Therefore, burdock may be a promising asset for researching and developing new therapies for inflammatory afflictions.

The Role of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) in Autoimmune Disease and Current TNF-α Inhibitors in Therapeutics

Dan-in Jang et al.

Summary: TNF-α was originally identified as a factor causing tumor necrosis but has also been recognized as a pathological component of autoimmune diseases. Its signaling pathways play important roles in cellular responses, and inappropriate activation can lead to chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases. TNF-α inhibitors have been developed as effective therapeutic tools for various autoimmune diseases.

Exercise training and burdock root (Arctium lappa L.) extract independently improve abdominal obesity and sex hormones in elderly women with metabolic syndrome

Min-Seong Ha et al.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome is on the rise among the elderly, leading to a need for new lifestyle-based treatment strategies. This study found that aquatic exercise and burdock root extract had differing effects on body composition and serum sex hormones in elderly women with MS, but their combined intervention did not show synergistic or additive effects.

Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, and Cancer Risk

Tiffany Scully et al.

Summary: Obesity and type 2 diabetes are both linked to increased cancer risk, with metabolic abnormalities playing a key role in the relationship and progression of cancer. Multiple mechanisms, including insulin signaling, lipid and glucose metabolism, as well as changes in adipose tissue, are proposed to be involved in the association between obesity, diabetes, and cancer.

The Anti-Obesity and Health-Promoting Effects of Tea and Coffee

Alexander Sirotkin et al.

Summary: Tea and coffee have the ability to promote health and prevent various disorders, partially due to the presence of molecules like caffeine. They can reduce fat storage by suppressing adipocyte functions and supporting gut microbiota, with tea also preventing obesity by reducing appetite, food consumption, and food absorption.
