Machine Learning Applications in Renewable Energy (MLARE) Research: A Publication Trend and Bibliometric Analysis Study (2012-2021)

Samuel-Soma M. Ajibade et al.

Summary: This study examines the research climate on machine learning applications in renewable energy (MLARE) through publication trends and bibliometric analysis. The results show that MLARE research is a broad and impactful multidisciplinary topic, with the most prominent journals being Applied Energy and Energies. Collaboration and research funding support contribute to the high productivity of major stakeholders in MLARE. The keyword co-occurrence analysis identifies four thematic areas describing the systems, technologies, tools/technologies, and socio-technical dynamics of MLARE research. Overall, ML is critical for the prediction, operation, and optimization of renewable energy technologies and the design and development of RE-related materials.

Upcycling of plastic waste to carbon nanomaterials: a bibliometric analysis (2000-2019)

Syie Luing Wong et al.

Summary: This paper provides an overview of the research landscape and knowledge structure regarding the conversion of plastic waste into carbon nanomaterials through a bibliometric analysis of publications. The analysis reveals an increasing number of publications from 2000 to 2019, with China being the most significant contributor. Most research teams have successfully synthesized multi-walled carbon nanotubes, graphene, nanoparticles, nanowires, and nanoplatelets. However, reproducible synthesis of tunable carbon nanotubes remains a major challenge.

Prediction of heat waves using meteorological variables in diverse regions of Iran with advanced machine learning models

Seyed Babak Haji Seyed Asadollah et al.

Summary: Climate change has led to an increase in temperature extremes, particularly heatwaves, in recent decades. This study developed physical-empirical models using decision tree, random forests, and a hybrid technique to forecast heatwave days in Iran. The proposed hybrid forecasting approach proved effective in predicting heatwave days, showing improved performance compared to alternative methods.

Groundwater level estimation in northern region of Bangladesh using hybrid locally weighted linear regression and Gaussian process regression modeling

Ahmed Elbeltagi et al.

Summary: Urban groundwater resources (GWRs) have declined due to various factors such as urbanization, population growth, groundwater exploitation, land use/land cover changes, and climate change. This study focuses on the role of underlying variables in groundwater level (GWL) fluctuation in drought-prone urban areas of Bangladesh. A novel hybrid ensemble modeling framework is proposed based on locally weighted linear regression (LWLR) and four Gaussian process regressions (GPRs). The framework is applied to predict GWL using inputs such as rainfall, temperature, soil moisture, vegetation index, oceanic and atmospheric indices, and population growth rate. The proposed model shows improved prediction accuracy compared to other models during both training and testing stages. It can serve as a valuable tool for areas with limited groundwater data, such as drought-prone urban areas.

Coopetition between frenemies-interrelations and effects of seven collaboration problems in research clusters

Malte Huckstadt

Summary: This article explores the effects and interrelationships of seven collaboration problems that arise in the context of the tension between cooperation and competition. The study finds that conflictual personal relationships between partners play a central role in collaboration problems, and fairness problems and management problems contribute to relationship problems. Furthermore, relationship problems lead to communication problems, certainty problems, difference problems, and goal commitment problems.
