Integrating multiple perspectives in marine spatial planning using the GIS-based Logic Scoring of Preference method

Logan Drackett et al.

Summary: The main goal of this research study is to use a generalized multicriteria evaluation method (LSP) integrated with geographic information systems (GIS) to represent different perspectives on the suitability for conservation areas for endangered killer whales. The results demonstrate the ability of the Logic Scoring of Preference method to derive overall integrated suitability maps using a variety of logical aggregators. This method can be applied to facilitate marine spatial planning by enabling stakeholders and decision makers to explore, analyse and visualize possible decision scenarios and their trade-offs.

The development of a spatial data infrastructure to support marine spatial planning in Greece

Michail Vaitis et al.

Summary: Marine Spatial Planning is recognized as an essential tool for reducing pressures on marine and coastal areas and promoting sustainable development. Many countries have initiated MSP processes and the provision of high-quality spatial data is crucial for effective MSP. This paper proposes a development framework and discusses the actions taken for the implementation of a Marine SDI in Greece to support MSP, along with lessons learned.

From plate to plug: The impact of offshore renewables on European fisheries and the role of marine spatial planning

V Stelzenmueller et al.

Summary: This study quantified for the first time the direct impact of offshore renewables (OR) development on European fisheries, finding that fishing fleets deploying bottom contacting gears targeting flatfish and crustaceans are the most affected. The study calls for European marine spatial planning processes to adopt common strategies in order to understand the implications of OR on free-ranging marine activities such as fisheries.

An updated version of the global interior ocean biogeochemical data product, GLODAPv2.2021

Siv K. Lauvset et al.

Summary: GLODAPv2.2021 is an updated version of the Global Ocean Data Analysis Project, incorporating data from 43 new cruises, extending data coverage until 2020, and performing quality control to ensure accuracy. The adjustments aim to remove biases from errors related to measurement, calibration, and data handling practices while maintaining known trends in the evaluated variables.
