Determination of the vulnerability of Korean fish stocks using productivity and susceptibility indices

Moo-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: Stock assessments and management measures alone might not be sufficient for effective fisheries management, especially when considering interactions between species and changes in ecosystem structure. In this study, a semiquantitative risk assessment analysis, productivity and susceptibility analysis (PSA), was used to evaluate the vulnerability of 30 fish species caught by 35 fisheries in South Korea. Based on the results, the vulnerable fish species were classified into low, medium, and high vulnerability groups, highlighting the need for strengthened management measures and quantitative stock assessments for the highly vulnerable species.

Climate change vulnerability assessment of the main marine commercial fish and invertebrates of Portugal

Juan Bueno-Pardo et al.

Summary: This study conducted an expert-based ecological vulnerability assessment on the main marine resources of Portugal in the context of climate change. It found that migratory and elasmobranch species had the highest vulnerabilities, while overall vulnerability scores were relatively low, possibly due to the high adaptive capacity of species from temperate ecosystems.

Influence of warming temperatures on coregonine embryogenesis within and among species

Taylor R. Stewart et al.

Summary: The greatest known global response of lakes to climate change is an increase in water temperatures. Many lake fishes may not be able to adequately respond to warming temperatures. Experimental evaluations of embryos from cold, stenothermic fishes suggest differential levels of developmental plasticity among study groups, indicating genetic diversity may enable adaptation to changing environmental conditions.
