Longitudinal determinants of anal intercourse among women with, and without HIV in the United States

Branwen Nia Owen et al.

Summary: This study found that anal intercourse without condom is associated with a higher risk of HIV transmission compared to vaginal intercourse without condom. The study also identified that anal intercourse often occurs after experiences of violence victimization, substance use, multiple sex partners, and depression. Therefore, it is important to focus on reducing gender-based violence and providing immediate treatment for those at risk of HIV transmission.
