Prior and governed stakeholder relationships: The key to resilience of inter-organizational projects

Xiaotian Yang et al.

Summary: Scholars recognize the importance of resilience in temporary inter-organizational projects, but research on the resilience of such projects considering the complex relationships among stakeholder organizations is lacking. The study found that stakeholder relationships, characterized by prior ties, contribute to resilience by promoting vigilance and fostering social solidarity. Contractual and relational governance mechanisms further enhance resilience by clarifying roles and responsibilities and forming collective cognition. The findings suggest that a plural governance design based on prior ties among stakeholders can improve the resilience of inter-organizational projects.
