High-yield and crystalline graphitic carbon nitride photocatalyst: One-step sodium acetate-mediated synthesis and improved hydrogen-evolution performance

Xinhe Wu et al.

Summary: An innovative and one-step sodium acetate (CH3COONa)-mediated synthesis strategy has been designed to synthesize a high-yield and crystalline g-C3N4 photocatalyst, aiming to avoid the drawbacks of currently reported molten salt-assisted strategy. The CH3COONa can effectively prevent the sublimation of DCDA and promote the transformation of DCDA into g-C3N4 with a high yield. The resulting g-C3N4 exhibits significantly enhanced H2-evolution rate.

Molecular engineering control defects within carbon nitride for optimized co-catalyst Pt induced photocatalytic CO2 reduction and NO2 oxidation reaction

Asif Hayat et al.

Summary: A specific copolymerization method was used to integrate 2,4-dihydroxyoxazole monomer into the carbon nitride framework, forming the composite material xCN/DHO. This composite material exhibits a sophisticated dual-phase photocatalytic activity, capable of both reducing and oxidizing CO2 and NO2 in aqueous solutions, as well as oxidizing olefins in organic states. The lipophilicity elevation of the olefins is attributed to the presence of DHO within the CN semiconductor shell, which allows the olefin molecules to be escorted into the bulk of CN and associated with the oxidation of *OH radicals. The copolymerized CN shows the greatest reduction/oxidation potential and superior overall performance under solar irradiation.

Enhanced photo-electrocatalytic performance of the nano heterostructures based on Pr3 thorn modified g-C3N4 and BiOI

P. Velusamy et al.

Summary: This study investigates the doping effect of Praseodymium (Pr) on the characteristics of few-layered graphitic carbon nitrides (FCN) and bismuth oxy iodide (BiOI) nano heterostructures. The inclusion of Pr dopant enhances the porosity and electron-hole separation of FCN, resulting in a metal-free nano heterostructure (Pr: FCN/BiOI) with improved photo-charge carrier recombination rate. The addition of Pr dopant also increases the solar light absorption ability of FCN. The 1.5 wt% Pr: FCN/BiOI nano heterostructure exhibits high photocurrent density and hydrogen evolution rate under solar light irradiation.

Ultra-thin carbon bridged MoC quantum dots/g-C3N4 with charge-transfer-reaction highways for boosting photocatalytic hydrogen production

Chunli Cui et al.

Summary: The construction of a novel structure of ultra-thin carbon bridged MoC quantum dots/g-C3N4 nanosheets has been achieved for the first time, facilitating carrier transfer and accelerating surface reactions. The designed composites feature a surface-to-surface contact between a conductive carbon layer and g-C3N4 nanosheet, as well as strong interfaces between MoC QDs and the carbon layer. The ultra-thin carbon layer serves as charge separation and migration pathways, while the MoC QDs act as noble-metal-free co-catalysts consuming surface electrons. The optimal MCCN photocatalyst exhibits significantly higher hydrogen evolution rate than pure g-C3N4 and Pt/g-C3N4.

Boron doping induced charge transfer switching of a C3N4/ZnO photocatalyst from Z-scheme to type II to enhance photocatalytic hydrogen production

Donghyung Kim et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the switching of charge transfer mechanism from the Z-scheme to type II through simple boron doping of C3N4/ZnO. The introduction of low-electronegativity boron into C3N4 increased its Fermi level by 0.4 V, leading to a reversed band bending direction at the C3N4/ZnO junction. The resulting type II B-doped C3N4/ZnO showed a stable, drastic increase in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate, approximately 2.9 times higher than undoped C3N4/ZnO.
