Double perovskite structured Ca2MgWO6:Sm3+nanophosphor: Tailored for future-generation WLEDs and dosimetry applications

G. P. Darshan et al.

Summary: In this study, amber red-emitting double perovskite structured Sm3+ ions-doped Ca2MgWO6 nanophosphors were synthesized via the solution combustion route. The nanophosphors exhibited a monoclinic crystal phase with an energy band gap of 3.86-3.97 eV. Photoluminescence emission spectra showed intense and sharp peaks at 570 nm, 603 nm, and 645 nm, corresponding to transitions of Sm3+ ions. Thermoluminescence glow curves exhibited peaks at 140℃, 232℃, and 264℃, indicating increased luminescent trapping levels and defect population. The nanophosphors showed a linear response to γ-ray doses within the range of 0.1-10 KGy, making them suitable for white light-emitting diodes and dosimetry applications in the future.

A new melilite-type rare-earth borate CdTbGaB2O7 and multicolor tunable emission in the CdTb1-xSmxGaB2O7 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2) phosphors

Xuean Chen et al.

Summary: A new mixed metal borate, CdTbGaB2O7, was synthesized and its crystal structure was determined. It belongs to a new member of the melilite family and has a 3D framework consisting of alternating tetrahedral layers and cationic layers interconnected via bridges. CdTb1-xSmxGaB2O7 solid solutions were also prepared. The materials showed color-tunable phosphorescence, making them potential candidates for UV w-LEDs.

Recent progress of fluorescent materials for fingermarks detection in forensic science and anti-counterfeiting

Anees A. A. Ansari et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the application of nanomaterials in latent fingerprint imaging, with a focus on luminescent Ln(3+)-NPs/UCNPs and their advantages in producing high-quality images on porous and non-porous surfaces. The review also discusses the use of conventional techniques, such as physical, chemical, and instrumental methods, for fingerprint detection, highlighting their limitations. Furthermore, the review emphasizes the need for further research in developing efficient, high-performance, surface-functionalized, biocompatible, and nontoxic Ln(3+) NPs/UCNPs for recognizing latent fingerprints on different surfaces.

Recent prospects on phosphor-converted LEDs for lighting, displays, phototherapy, and indoor farming

Airton G. Bispo-Jr et al.

Summary: Phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diodes (PC-WLEDs) play a crucial role in indoor and outdoor lighting, but concerns regarding spectral distribution, reliability, and color quality still need to be addressed. The design of high-efficient downshifting converter phosphors with thermally stable luminescence is key, with PC-WLEDs also being considered for indoor farming and phototherapy applications, although performance compared to traditional lamps is a current issue.
