Diffusion coefficient analysis of aluminum electrolysis spent cathode as anode material for lithium-ion battery

Wenlong Huang et al.

Summary: The hydrothermally treated aluminum electrolysis spent cathode (SC) shows excellent electrochemical performance, with a calculated Li+ diffusion coefficient of 2.2292 x 10(-11) cm(2) s(-1) by CV analysis. The SC electrode exhibits better Li+ diffusion kinetics compared to commercial graphite (CG), leading to a high discharge capacity and capacity retention in the full cell of LiNi0.5Co0.2Mn0.3O2/SC.

Modelling the Impedance Response of Graded LiFePO4 Cathodes for Li-Ion Batteries

R. Drummond et al.

Summary: Graded electrodes in Li-ion batteries can improve battery performance by reducing degradation rates and increasing capacity at high discharge rates. However, the mechanisms and conditions for achieving these performance benefits are not fully understood. This study develops an electrochemical model and validates it using experimental data, revealing that a localized carbon-enriched region at the electrode/current collector interface can decrease overpotential distribution and improve charge transfer resistance and impedance.

Understanding rapid charge and discharge in nano-structured lithium iron phosphate cathodes

M. Castle et al.

Summary: The research develops a DFN model for the nano-structured LFP cathodes, finding that lithium transport within the electrode particles is faster than cell discharge, and is not rate limiting. Numerical solutions show the formation of sharp discharge fronts at certain parameter values and C-rates, separating regions of fully utilized electrode particles from those that are not. The asymptotic analysis leads to a reduced order model known as the RFM, which shows favorable agreement with the full DFN model in certain parameter regimes and has lower computational costs for use in scenarios where optimization and parameter estimation are prohibitive.

Enhanced performance of a Ni-rich LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode material formed through Taylor flow synthesis and surface modification with Li2MoO4

Lakshmipriya Musuvadhi Babulal et al.

Summary: A novel continuous Taylor flow reactor was used to prepare a high-energy-density, highly stable LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode material, with further modification through surface coating with Li2MoO4. The modified cathode material demonstrated lower cation mixing, enhanced electrochemical performance, and improved capacity retention over cycles. The prepared and modified LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 products were characterized through in situ XRD and in operando microcalorimetry for volume changes, lattice parameters, and thermal stabilities.

LiFePO4/C nanoparticle with fast ion/electron transfer capability obtained by adjusting pH values

Yong Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adjusting the pH value in the synthesis process can effectively improve the performance of olivine-structure LiFePO(4), resulting in smaller nanoparticle size and increased capacity. The optimized pH value helps reduce charge transfer resistance and enhance lithium-ion diffusion coefficient.

Synthesis, impedance analysis and Na-ion kinetic studies of combustion derived orthorhombic Nano-Na2FeSiO4 for Na-ion batteries cathode

Harishpal et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of Na2FeSiO4 as a cathode material for Na-ion batteries using a urea combustion technique. The optimized amounts of sodium precursors and urea were determined through different combustion reactions, and the electrochemical performance, impedance, and diffusion coefficient of NFS were investigated. Results indicate that despite its nanophase and mesoporous nature, NFS is not suitable as a high-performing cathode material due to poor kinetics of Na-ion movement.

Shape Matters: The Effect of Particle Morphology on the Fast-Charging Performance of LiFePO4/C Nanoparticle Composite Electrodes

Julia Seher et al.

Summary: This paper studied the relationship between the fast-charging capability of LiFePO4 batteries and the particle morphology, finding a strong correlation with the aspect ratio c/a of the nanoparticles. LiFePO4 nanoparticles with the smallest aspect ratio c/a exhibited the best electrochemical performance at high C-rates, and reducing the aspect ratio c/a by 30% significantly increased the charge capacity.
