Investigation of abnormally high growth-per-cycle in atomic layer deposition of Al2O3 using trimethylaluminum and water

So-Yeon Ham et al.

Summary: Atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique offers precise control over thin film thickness, but faces challenges in thick film growth. The study reveals that abnormally high growth-per-cycle (GPC) in Al2O3 ALD is not solely attributed to residual H2O, but also to the dimeric nature of TMA.

Removal of Congo red dyes from aqueous solutions by porous γ-alumina nanoshells

Sara Al-Salihi et al.

Summary: The highly porous g-Al2O3 nanoshells synthesized from alumina coated carbon black demonstrated excellent adsorption capacity for the removal of Congo Red dye from aqueous solutions. The adsorption equilibrium could be reached within 30 minutes, with a high removal efficiency of 98.6% achieved at pH 4.0. The adsorption capacity of the Al2O3 nanoshells was significantly higher than that of alumina/CB, showing superior performance in dye removal.

Mesoporous alumina-supported layered double hydroxides for efficient CO2 capture

Kai Wu et al.

Summary: A novel kind of CO2 solid adsorbents was prepared by loading layered double hydroxides (LDH) on mesoporous alumina (MA) support. The LDHs were evenly distributed on the surface of MA, resulting in improved CO2 adsorption performance through chemical adsorption and storage of CO2 in the form of carbonate. This new adsorbent has great potential in CO2 adsorption applications.

3D carbon nanotubes-graphene hybrids for energy conversion and storage applications

Mohammad Etesami et al.

Summary: Due to global concerns on limited non-renewable energy resources, developing accessible renewable energy systems and expanding electrochemical energy-related devices are necessary. Carbon-based metal-free materials, such as carbon nanotubes-graphene (CNTs-G) hybrids, have shown great potential in electrochemical devices as alternatives to frequently used Pt. These hybrid materials possess unique qualities that make them suitable candidates for next generation technologies. Carbon-based materials have also demonstrated excellent performance in key reactions in electrochemical energy conversion/storage devices. This review discusses the recent achievements and applications of 3D CNTs-G hybrid heterostructures in oxygen-and hydrogen-related electrocatalysts and energy-related devices.

Innovative progress in graphene derivative-based composite hybrid membranes for the removal of contaminants in wastewater: A review

Urooj Kamran et al.

Summary: Graphene derivatives, specifically graphene oxide, have shown great potential in membrane separation technology for the efficient removal of multiple contaminants from wastewater. Through chemical treatments and decoration with various active functional materials, graphene derivative-based composite hybrid membranes (GDHMs) exhibit improved properties compared to pristine membranes. The removal mechanisms include size exclusion, transport, electrostatic interactions, adsorption, and donnan exclusion.

Ordered Mesoporous Alumina with Tunable Morphologies and Pore Sizes for CO2 Capture and Dye Separation

Geok Leng Seah et al.

Summary: A versatile and scalable strategy was developed to prepare long-range and periodically ordered mesoporous alumina structures using a structure-directing ABA triblock copolymer mixed with an aluminum tri-sec-butoxide-derived sol additive. The resulting hierarchically ordered mesoporous alumina showed tunable pore sizes in three different length scales and enhanced adsorption capacities, making them potentially useful for green environmental solutions and urban sustainability applications.
