Regulation of flavonoids in strawberry fruits by FaMYB5/FaMYB10 dominated MYB-bHLH-WD40 ternary complexes

Maolan Yue et al.

Summary: Anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins in strawberry fruits are regulated by the MYB-bHLH-WD40 complex, with R2R3-FaMYB5 promoting their accumulation. The MBW complexes FaMYB5/FaMYB10-FaEGL3 (bHLH)-FaLWD1/FaLWD1-like (WD40) are involved in the flavonoid metabolism in strawberries. Different MBW models exhibit distinct patterns in regulating flavonoid biosynthesis, with FaMYB5 and its dominant complexes having a specific regulatory range. FaMYB9 and FaMYB11 play a significant role in the accumulation of proanthocyanidins and also impact anthocyanin metabolism. The study provides new insights into the regulatory mechanisms of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins regulated by the MBW complex.

The Synergistic Effects of Environmental and Genetic Factors on the Regulation of Anthocyanin Accumulation in Plant Tissues

Van Giap Do et al.

Summary: The accumulation of anthocyanin is responsible for the coloration of apple fruit, and this accumulation depends on the expression of genes related to anthocyanin biosynthesis. Light plays a role in inducing fruit coloration by regulating genes involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis. This study investigates the effects of light and genetic factors on the coloration and accumulation of anthocyanin in apple fruits. The findings suggest that light, together with the overexpression of genes in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway, induces the coloration and accumulation of anthocyanin in apple fruits by upregulating the expression of these genes.

Light Induces Carotenoid Biosynthesis-Related Gene Expression, Accumulation of Pigment Content, and Expression of the Small Heat Shock Protein in Apple Fruit

Van Giap Do et al.

Summary: The coloration of apple fruits depends on pigment content, and light stimulus and carotenoids are involved in the coloring process. The pigment content and the expression of carotenoid metabolism genes in apple fruits vary significantly under different light conditions, and the genetic background also plays a role. Additionally, a combination of light and transitory overexpression of carotenogenic genes can enhance fruit coloration and pigment content.

Transcriptomic and Metabolomic Analysis of Quality Changes during Sweet Cherry Fruit Development and Mining of Related Genes

Chaoqun Chen et al.

Summary: This study determined the mechanism of fruit quality changes in sweet cherries by analyzing their development stages. The results showed drastic changes in soluble sugar, anthocyanin content, and hormones during the color transition. Metabolome and transcriptome analysis revealed different sugars and flavonoid species in sweet cherries. Key structural genes and transcription factors involved in various synthesis pathways were identified. Positive regulatory significance on anthocyanin accumulation was observed for specific transcription factors.

Effect of Reflected Sunlight on Differential Expression of Anthocyanin Synthesis-Related Genes in Young Apple Fruit

Do Van Giap et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of sunlight exposure in stimulating the coloration of apple fruit by regulating the expression of genes involved in anthocyanin accumulation during the early stage of fruit development. Results showed that the shaded side of apple fruits quickly turned redder after exposure to reflected sunlight, indicating a strong correlation between anthocyanin-related gene expression levels and coloration patterns. The production of redder fruits through a non-transgenic approach could be more appealing to consumers.
