Thermomechanical Constitutive Models of Shape Memory Polymers and Their Composites

Wei Zhao et al.

Summary: Shape memory polymers (SMPs) and SMP composites (SMPCs) are widely used due to their excellent self-actuation, deformation, and self-adaption. Establishing reasonable constitutive models is crucial for understanding the shape memory mechanism and expanding applications. This study reviews the theories of thermally actuated SMPs, rheological and phase transition concept models, and models combining the rheology and phase transition concepts. Additionally, constitutive models of particulate-reinforced SMPCs, carbon-fiber-reinforced SMPCs, and the buckling behavior of SMPCs are summarized. This study is expected to contribute to the establishment of rational constitutive models for SMPs and SMPCs by addressing remaining issues.

Conformable microneedle pH sensors via the integration of two different siloxane polymers for mapping peripheral artery disease

Wonryung Lee et al.

Summary: The study developed a microneedle sensor on a hybrid substrate based on high Young's modulus epoxy siloxane and low Young's modulus polydimethylsiloxane, successfully achieving a microneedle sensor array on a flexible substrate. Mechanical durability was assessed through insertion into pig skin 1000 times, and the utility of flexible microneedle pH sensors in monitoring pH distribution in a disease model was demonstrated.

High-Performance Flexible Pressure Sensor Based on Controllable Hierarchical Microstructures by Laser Scribing for Wearable Electronics

Qifeng Du et al.

Summary: This study presents a simple and scalable fabrication process for a flexible pressure sensor with high sensitivity and wide detection range. Using silver nanowires coated, laser-ablated hierarchical microstructured polydimethylsiloxane, and an interdigital electrode, the sensor achieves a high sensitivity of 4.48 kPa(-1) and a detection range from 0 to 65 kPa. The device has been successfully applied in measuring arterial pulse, breathing, and static tremors on the human body, demonstrating its promising applications in wearable electronic skins.
