A multifunctional bioresponsive and fluorescent active nanogel composite for breast cancer therapy and bioimaging

Matineh Ghomi et al.

Summary: Bio-responsive nanocomposites with facile fabrication and rational design are utilized for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in this study. A traceable and bioresponsive fluorescent active nanogel composite, integrating creatinine-functionalized carbon dots (QD) and lecithin-inulin nanogel, was fabricated for targeted therapy of HER2-positive breast cancer. The nanogel composite exhibited effective cellular uptake, boosted reactive oxygen species production, and regulated expression of apoptosis-related genes. It also enhanced the cellular uptake of herceptin, inhibited cancer cell proliferation, and reduced tumor growth in vivo. This herceptin-adorned PEGylated lecithin-inulin nanogel composite holds potential as a theranostic candidate for HER-2-positive breast cancer.

Nanocomposite pastes of gelatin and cyclodextrin-grafted chitosan nanoparticles as potential postoperative tumor therapy

Lin Xiao et al.

Summary: This study prepared nanocomposite (NC) pastes with unique viscoelastic properties and pH-responsive drug delivery ability. The NC pastes were made from gelatin and beta-cyclodextrin-grafted chitosan nanoparticles through host-guest interactions. The results showed that the NC pastes had reversible shear-thinning and self-healing properties, and could release drugs in a simulated tumoral microenvironment.

Chitosan/alginate bionanocomposites adorned with mesoporous silica nanoparticles for bone tissue engineering

Satar Yousefiasl et al.

Summary: The regeneration of oral and craniofacial bone defects imposes a global health burden, and conventional therapies have limitations, highlighting the need for unique treatment strategies like tissue engineering. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) were found to enhance the mechanical strength of scaffolds without decreasing porosity. The MSN-containing scaffolds exhibited desirable swelling behaviors, low hydrolytic degradation, and no cytotoxicity. Therefore, Alg/Chit/MSN30 scaffolds are considered promising for bone tissue regeneration.

Chitosan/hyaluronan nanogels co-delivering methotrexate and 5-aminole-vulinic acid: A combined chemo-photodynamic therapy for psoriasis

Yixuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study fabricated chitosan/hyaluronan nanogels to co-load methotrexate (MTX) and 5-aminoleavulinic acid (ALA) for a combined chemo-photodynamic therapy for psoriasis. The nanogels enhanced the penetration and retention of MTX and ALA in the skin, leading to synergistic anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects on psoriatic cells. Importantly, the nanogels reduced the toxicities of oral MTX to the liver and kidney, making it a convenient, effective, and safe treatment strategy for psoriasis.

N-doped MXene derived from chitosan for the highly effective electrochemical properties as supercapacitor

Liuyue Pu et al.

Summary: A new type of N-doped MXene nanomaterial was prepared from non-toxic biological chitosan and MXene as a potential electrode for supercapacitors, showing high specific capacitance and excellent stability after 10,000 charge and discharge cycles. This was attributed to the lone pair of electrons of the N atom and increased interlayer distance in the N-doped MXene.
