Latilactobacillus sakei Wikim0066 Protects Skin through MMP Regulation on UVB-Irradiated In Vitro and In Vivo Model

Jeong-Yong Park et al.

Summary: UVB exposure leads to wrinkle formation, breakdown of collagen fiber, and transepidermal water loss. It induces the expression of MAPK, AP-1, and NF-kappa B, which impact the expression of MMP. The use of wikim0066 restores type I procollagen production and alleviates wrinkle formation in UVB-irradiated cells and mice.

Effects of Rosemary Extract on C2C12 Myoblast Differentiation and 5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide Ribonucleoside (AICAR)-Induced Muscle Cell Atrophy

Jun Ho Lee et al.

Summary: The effectiveness of rosemary extract (RE) in inducing myotube differentiation and inhibiting AICAR-induced muscle atrophy was evaluated in this study. The results showed that RE increased myotube thickness and promoted the expression of muscle differentiation-related proteins MyoD and myogenin. Furthermore, RE reduced the expression of muscle atrophy-related proteins FoxO3a, MAFbx/atrogin-1, and MuRF-1, while significantly increasing the expression of MyoD and myogenin.

Mealworm Ethanol Extract Enhances Myogenic Differentiation and Alleviates Dexamethasone-Induced Muscle Atrophy in C2C12 Cells

Ra-Yeong Choi et al.

Summary: This study found that mealworm ethanol extract (TME) can promote myotube formation and increase the expression of muscle-related proteins, enhancing muscle hypertrophy through regulating the mTOR signaling pathway. In the DEX-induced muscle atrophy C2C12 model, TME can reduce the expression of protein degradation-related genes and alleviate Dex-induced muscle atrophy by activating Akt. Therefore, TME has the potential to be a therapeutic agent for treating muscle weakness and atrophy.

The Effect of a Glutathione (GSH)-Containing Cryo-Protectant on the Viability of Probiotic Cells Using a Freeze-Drying Process

Trung Hau Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study found that glutathione (GSH) can be a potential protective agent for improving the stability of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and probiotics under freeze-drying, freeze-thawing, and cold treatments. The optimal concentration of GSH (50% w/w) showed effective protection on the viability and stability of various LAB strains. GSH-containing protectants enhanced the survivability of probiotics after freeze-drying and showed anti-freezing and anti-thawing effects.

Protein Hydrolysate from Spirulina platensis Prevents Dexamethasone-Induced Muscle Atrophy via Akt/Foxo3 Signaling in C2C12 Myotubes

Chi-Woo Lee et al.

Summary: Adding Spirulina hydrolysates (SPH) to the cell culture medium can promote the differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts and inhibit Dexamethasone (DEX)-induced myotube atrophy. This is achieved by regulating the expression of muscle atrophy-related factors and regulating the FoxO3a transcription factor.

Yeast hydrolysate ameliorates dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy by suppressing MuRF-1 expression in C2C12 cells and C57BL/6 mice

Yejin Ahn et al.

Summary: This study found that yeast hydrolysate can promote muscle cell differentiation and inhibit muscle atrophy. In cell and mouse models, yeast hydrolysate increased the length and area of muscle fibers and significantly increased the expression of muscle differentiation-related genes. Furthermore, yeast hydrolysate also reduced the expression of muscle atrophy-related proteins and improved grip strength and lean mass.
