Simultaneous Production of Cellulase and ?-Carotene in the Filamentous Fungus Trichoderma reesei

Jing Li et al.

Summary: A T. reesei cell factory was constructed for the first time to produce ig-carotene. By overexpressing key enzymes including CarRP, CarB, GGS1/CrtE, and HMG1, and optimizing the concentration of medium components, the modified strain achieved a titer of 218.8 mg/L of ig-carotene in flask culture. This study offers a novel and unique approach to simultaneously produce proteins and carotenoids using T. reesei industrial strains, addressing the costly waste mycelium management process.

Evaluation of Bio-detoxification of Jatropha curcas Seed Cake and Cottonseed Cake by Basidiomycetes: Nutritional and Antioxidant Effects

Marina Borges Guimaraes et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the growth capacity of seven basidiomycetes in different biomass substrates and their effects on protein content and antioxidant activity. Results showed that several basidiomycetes were able to grow in the substrates and had detoxification and protein enhancement capabilities. These findings suggest the potential use of basidiomycetes in detoxifying JCS and CSC biomasses for animal feed applications.

Production of Enzymatic Extract with High Cellulolytic and Oxidative Activities by Co-Culture of Trichoderma reesei and Panus lecomtei

Ruben Dario Romero Pelaez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to produce enzymatic extracts from co-cultured fungi with hydrolytic and oxidative activities for efficient hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomasses. The co-cultures of Trichoderma reesei and Panus lecomtei showed positive interaction and responded positively to variations in temperature and inoculum interval. The enzymatic extract production of co-cultures was improved by modifying the media composition, resulting in higher hydrolysis yields and ethanol production. This work demonstrates the use of fungi co-cultures to produce enzymatic extracts for efficient hydrolysis and fermentation of pretreated lignocellulosic biomass.

Induction of cellulase production by Sr2+ in Trichoderma reesei via calcium signaling transduction

Ni Li et al.

Summary: This study found that Sr2+ supplementation stimulates cellulase production and upregulates cellulase genes via the calcium signaling transduction pathway. However, Sr2+ also leads to an increase in intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), which is detrimental to cellulase production, but can be alleviated by the ROS scavenger NAC.

Decolourisation of textile dye by laccase: Process evaluation and assessment of its degradation bioproducts

Ashutosh Yadav et al.

Summary: The biodegradation of environmentally hazardous synthetic dyes by enzymes, particularly laccase derived from Arthrographis kalrae, has received significant attention in recent years. Through the Box-Behnken design approach, optimal dye decolourisation of Remazol Brilliant Blue R was achieved with a 97.18% efficiency. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and UV-Visible Spectrophotometry confirmed the biodegradation process, while extra Precision Glide docking revealed a strong binding affinity between laccase and RBBR complex.

A Comparison of Physical, Chemical, Biological and Combined Treatments for Detoxification of Free Gossypol in Crushed Whole Cottonseed

Clemente Batista Soares Neto et al.

Summary: Oilseed plants like cotton contain significant levels of edible oil, crude proteins, and other desirable biomolecules, but the presence of toxic free gossypol limits the use of cottonseed cake in animal feed. Various pretreatment methods, including physical, chemical, and biological, were compared for detoxification of gossypol in cottonseed, with promising results that could benefit the animal nutrition industry.
